The Government Polytechnic has been established in 1990 by Government of Maharashtra in Raigad district.Initially the college premise was at Alibaug on rental basis, and then afterwards in 1993 it was shifted at Pen at Technical High School Campus. Then in 1998 the institute was further shofted in its own building at Shivaji Nagar, Ramwadi,Pen.
At the beginning the institute introduced diploma in Mechanical & Civil Engineering with intake of 60 each. Then in 1996 the diploma in Instrumentation and Control and Chemical Engineering were introduced with 40 intakes each. Later on in 2007 diploma in Computer Technology was also introduced with 60 intake.The total capacity of the institute is 260 Students per year with Grand Total of nearly 900 students taking technical education in the institute.
All diploma Courses are of 3years duration & affiliated to Maharashtra State Board of Technical Education, Mumbai.All courses are AICTEapproved.The Institute is governed by Director, Directorate of Technical Education,Mumbai.
Institute also provides hostel facility to boys with capacity of 90 students. Apart from diploma courses institute also provides consultancy,testing & services to industry & community. The institute is implementing Community Polytechnic Scheme of MHRD, Government of India,New Delhi. The institute is spread over an area of 5 acre approx.
Institute is located in Shivaji Nagar ,Ramwadi,Pen.Pen is a taluka place in Raigad district of Maharashtra State in India. It is ½ K.M. from Pen Railway Station & in the vicinity of Ramwadi ST Bus depot. It is situated at 5 minutes walking distance from Mumbai-Goa National Highway NH-17.
